The big scary STRIKE!

No one wants to strike, it’s a last resort option. It can’t be done without a 75%+ majority vote from you and your coworkers. Here are some Q&A’s about striking and the UAW.

What is a strike?

A strike happens when workers (75% majority the UAW cannot make you strike, only us) collectively decide to withhold their labor, after authorization from the International. In the UAW, strikes are governed by the UAW Constitution, including Articles 12, 16 and 50.

What happens if we go on strike after we all vote on it with 75% or more in favor?

Well we stand out at the picket line! We do get paid $500 a week and benefits are covered by the UAW! Even if we aren’t a part of their local yet. They have our backs during this process but it is all up to us. You are only eligible for strike pay if you are a good standing member. And since we don’t pay dues until 30 days AFTER our first contract is signed, the Union authorization card allows you to receive strike pay and vote in the upcoming bargaining committee nominations July 16th and election July 23rd at the Union office. The “Membership Application Card” is what signs you up for dues! Those are NOT circulating around at work. Know the difference! Don’t let the company trick you!

Can you be fined from the UAW for crossing the picket line and still going to work?

Absolutely not, there are no fines or fees for crossing the picket line. This is a cause we stand together with solidarity. Together we can change the workplace for the better! Going on strike is the last thing anyone wants to do, but it is an option. As long as 75% or more of our co workers vote to authorize one!

Can the UAW threaten you in any way for crossing the picket line?

Woof… I don’t even know what to say other than TK probably really does think that low of us.. there is no fee or fine or anything like that either..

TK Accelis is claiming “There have even been instances where this involves violence or threats of violence.” There are multiple unions around the Indianapolis area that formed without the threat of violence from the unions. The union is what brought us 40 hour work weeks, and the fact that work can’t lock us in the building with no breaks. This is just an absurd thing to think we would do, I mean they are implying it… otherwise they wouldn’t say it!

Can they replace you during a strike?

No work cannot replace anyone during an unfair labor practice strike. The strike type that TK is referring to is a “wildcat” strike. The UAW never authorizes those, it’s never a good idea. We would never try to participate in one of those.
